Juneteenth: America's Second Independence Day

Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day, Freedom Day, and Emancipation Day, is a federal holiday in the United States observed on June 19th. It commemorates the end of slavery in the country.
The name "Juneteenth" is a portmanteau of "June" and "nineteenth," referring to June 19, 1865, the date when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of the Civil War and the emancipation of enslaved people in the state.
